So, as I wrote about in my last entry, C and I headed up to Manchester, NH to see the Reverend Horton Heat on Saturday night. We went up alone and met 3 friends who came up from Boston in a separate car. It was weird being at a show where I didn't know or at least recognize anyone other than my friends. The added bonus was that C got to see (and meet) one of his favorite bands, Suicide Contest, who don't play out much at all. It was a strange mix of bands - 2 local hardcore bands followed by 2 touring rockabilly bands. I liked it just fine but it also made for a weird mix in the crowd - hardcore folks in trucker hats and ripped jeans mixed with rocka-billies and -betties in vintage duds (rockabilly guys make me swoon!).

C and I positioned ourselves right near the stage, on the side the Rev was to play and waited until they came onstage. Oh my God, I was like less than 10 feet from the Rev himself. That man rocks! I love the way he dresses. Saturday he wore a red and gray flame suit with matching shoes and guitar. They played for about an hour and 1/2, which was such a blast. So incredible! As we were completely packed in by the front of the stage, we were covered in sweat, so after the first hour we abandoned our posts for some breathing room by the back of the crowd. C is a new fan of the Rev's (and his band - Jimbo and Scott) and he took like a million pictures with his digital camera!

You'd think that was the highlight of my weekend but I actually enjoyed my Saturday afternoon more. C and I went on our very first picnic together. He went out and bought a picnic basket, wine carrier, cloth napkins, a candle etc. and I got the food. We headed to a local park with a fantastic view of the Boston skyline, spread out our blanket and relaxed. It was so romantic - I don't think I'd ever been on a picnic with a boy before! Awww, he's so awesome. I'm totally going to miss him this weekend when he heads to Atlanta with a band we know for the Beer Olympics. I'm not thinking about that now, though.
