2003-08-08 - 9:59 a.m. I am another year older. Monday was my birthday and I am now quite deeply ingrained in my mid-thirties. Yikes. But, it was so much fun! It started Sunday afternoon when my parents came over to see my new bedroom furniture. I, in fact, bought it the day before I met C and had it delivered the morning of our first official date. So, it's not new at all, you see. Anyway, then the four of us (me, C, Mom and Dad) went across the street to the little restaurant there for lunch. My (rock star) brother and his girlfriend joined us, as did my brother, sister-in-law and niece. It was great that everyone was there and we had a nice leisurely lunch with cake and presents. We all parted ways mid-afternoon and C and I squeezed in a nap before we had to head out to meet my friends for dinner. Ugh, we were both still full from lunch, so while I never thought I'd say this, I had to force myself to eat. My old roommate L came, so I was glad she and C got to meet for the first time. It was a fun, relaxing time. Monday, my actual birthday, was an okay day since I had to work and all. Three work girlfriends took me to Cheesecake Factory for lunch where I proceeded to stuff myself silly. We got a slice of cookie dough cheesecake to go and we all shared it amongst ourselves and a few other co-workers later in the afternoon. Yum! Now, I knew that C had something up his sleeve so I was pretty curious what his plans for the night were. He called me from my place early in the afternoon, having left work early. Knowing that he'd be at my place all day made me really curious but I managed to make it through the day which was peppered with e-mails and phone calls from relatives and friends. When I got home and opened my door, I saw the most amazingly breathtaking sight. C had candles lit all over the place - he had gone out and bought about a dozen candle holders and candles - and the table was set with new placemats and cloth napkins (also purchased for the occasion) and a large basket of beautiful fresh flowers. He even had Nora Jones playing on the stereo! He served me dinner (bought from a local restaurant because he "can't cook" and didn't want to make a mess in my kitchen) and wine and it was just heaven! I felt so pampered and loved, like a princess!!! Between courses (again, stuffed from lunch but managed to eat), I opened my presents. C's daughter gave me a CD of one of my favorite local bands and a cute card. C gave me a Crank Yankers CD (a guilty pleasure of mine, I love "Special Ed" Yay!!!), a new Red Sox cap, a card that made me cry and gorgeous diamond earrings. I was just floored. They are beautiful silver (or white gold or platinum?) drops with 3 princess cut (my preferred cut for an engagement ring, as he knows) diamonds. They're funky but not too over-the-top, just my style. Ahhhh. All in all, it was my best birthday ever! The rest of this week has been spent alternating between trying to eat sensibly and exercise and eating all the yummy leftovers in my fridge. I'll get back on track next week, I suppose.
